What sparked your love of vintage?
I like that vintage pieces have a story, whether it's kākahu, furniture, or jewellery. It's giving lineage.
What’s one wardrobe piece you’ll have forever?
A leather jacket is soooo versatile. Probably that. I always reach for them!
What’s the best vintage find you’ve ever had?
It’s a tie between a black leather jacket from a market in Berlin (that I lost at a party) & some bright green silk wide-legged pants I got in Camden (Rānana)
Is there an item you’re currently looking for?
Sounds crack up, but me and a mate were just talking about those woven Wynn Hamlyn pieces - & how it’d be cool to weave old leather to make something. So maybe some leather or denim could work too?
What era do you find yourself drawn back to again and again?
90s has my heart, that minimalist off-duty model look x streetwear, something so effortless about it!! Worn jeans/oversized blouses/slip dresses & kitten heels meets avirex jackets, fubu, starter etc.
Everything was so tea and heavily influenced my eye/personal style, especially Sade. I liked the masculine tailoring in her looks, and the fem elements with the hoops & the red lip. I reckon Aimé Leon Dore is a good contemporary example of a brand today that kinda mixes all of the above - elevated street/sportswear x tailoring x 90s NYC references.
If you could only source vintage or pre-loved from one place, where would that be?
Op shops in small regions; I can’t pick one!
What’s something you’ve seen, heard, or read recently that’s inspired you?
I regularly stalk Paloma Elsesser & Tessa Mae Thompson. Paloma's looks always add a bit of tension. Like there’s something a lil skewed about them, and they have whimsy/playful element that gives you permission to experiment. Tessa's very much in line with all that. Two divas with taste.
